Chic for Spring in Hoodies and Flat Mules

Have you noticed a new trend for hooded sweatshirts and flat mules but don’t quite know how to rock it?  Read on as I show you how to style a hooded sweatshirt with maxi skirts and flat mules for a chic sporty look.

In my few previous posts, I wrote about transitional pieces and how to style them for Spring for comfort and style. If you missed any of them, you can read here on how to style oversized scarfs and trench coats,  here on how to style tweed coats for a chic sporty vibe, and here on how to dress them down with denim, and finally here on how to layer leather jackets for a polished chic look.

In today’s post, I will address two new trends: hooded sweatshirts and flat mules and I’ll show you how to style them together for a chic sporty look.

I don’t follow all trends (and nor should you!) as keeping up with all of them would be quite burdensome and confusing. I think of trends as style tips on specific looks and I’ll only pick a few that I really like, fit my style and flatter my frame. I also like to put my own spin on trends because fashion is expression and art for me, so, I will have an opinion on it, and also an individual way to wear even the latest trends. We all want to stand out, don’t we? And personalizing some trends is an opportunity to do just that.

So, let’s get back to flat mules and hooded sweatshirts. Why I picked them? Because they are both comfy and versatile and practical fashion is great fashion, in my opinion. You probably saw both trends by now: hoodies styled with denim and flat mules with minis,  but I wanted to combine them together  and create some interesting sporty looks that can be worn throughout the week and week-end as well.

1.       Style a hoodie with a fitted leather jacket. I like to play contrasts, so I liked the black and white color combination when picking these pieces. But you can go bolder, if you want and style say a dark green leather jacket with a white or grey sweatshirt.

2.       Add a maxi skirt and flat mules. I like contrasts in textures as well as they create unexpected combinations. This outfit is essentially a symphony of contrasting colors and textures: silk polka dot tee, layered with a white hoodie, layered with a studded leather jacket. I also added a thicker knit maxi skirt with a striped black and white pattern. My final touch is of course the flat mule, and off course, it is made of lace.
